DENDROBIUM 'Fimbriatum' 'Yellow Orange'
The name originates from the Latin fimbriatus (fimbriate) for the fimbriate margin (fibrous or brush like) to the lip, which is a distinctive characteristic of this species. They usually have yellow flowers that last for 5-10 days. It is distributed in India, China and South-east Asia.
Den. fimbriatum has erect or arching cane stems that are 60 to 200 cm long. Spikes can be upto 20 cms long. It can priduce upto 20 flowers in a spike. They could be grown tied to the trees due to their tall nature.
It can be grown epiphytically on a bark slab, or in baskets. Well drained medium needs to used. Requires bright light such as 50-70% shade with plenty of water and high humidity.
It is not the best species to grow in a confined space due to his large size. It is seen in cool to warm growing humid pine forests at lower elevations. It is deciduous and requires less water in the winter. A 4 inch basket could be used for most of the plants unless they have grown too much! |
